How to heat press from design onto light colored shirt?

Okay if your reading this blog, chances are that you have decided to heat press your design onto a light colored fabric. Hey this is Mike from Equalize Designz and with this blog post there is a video embed that will show you step by step on how heat press on a light color garment. But before we go on you going to need of a printer, a light colored garment, a heat press machine and heat transfer paper made specifically for light colored fabric.

Okay so let’s get started. The first thing you want to do is open up your image that you would like to heat press, you can open it up in any image editing software, but In this blog we are going to be using adobe Photoshop. Now once you have your image opened up you can make any adjustments you like before printing it out. Once you have made your adjustments you will be ready to move to the next step.

Now that we have tweaked our image, the following step and probably the most important step is to mirror your image. Now before we do that you want to make sure that all of your layers are selected and you can do that by holding down the shift key on mac or windows and click on the layers. The layers should now be highlighted blue, which means they are now selected. Now that you have all of your layers selected you want to click on the edit in the taskbar at the top, find the transform option and choose flip horizontally, you may be wondering why this is done the reason is because the light heat transfer paper is a hot peeled type of paper which requires the backing to be peeled directly off the fabric causing the image to be mirrored.

We have now mirrored our image it’s ready to be printed, so go ahead and click on file in the task bar and choose print, you are now presented with a properties window where you can check your preferences and make any final adjustments, once you have made your adjustments you can now print you design.

Now we have our design printed you can now begin the heat transfer process. First thing you want to do is lay your shirt down over the canvas of the heat press machine carefully pre-press for five to ten seconds to remove all the wrinkles and moisture. Once you pre-press your shirt the next step to do is to press your design on to the shirt be sure to have the correct temperature and time for light heat transfer paper.  This transfer paper needs to be hot peeled so once it is heat press; you lift to plate and immediately peel the paper of the shirt. So now that you peel paper off the shirt you remove the garment from heat press machine and you are finish.

Thanks for viewing our blog post, be sure to check out Monday’s post on what are the difference between web design and web development any questions comment below until then.
