Applying adhesive vinyl onto a mug

Who drinks coffee or tea daily or at least weekly, if you do wouldn't you want your own custom made mug for morning time or anytime of the day. There so many different methods of designing a mug, you can use a mug press or you can use adhesive vinyl. Hey everyone it’s Chris and today I'm going to be applying adhesive vinyl onto a mug. To start we use Oracal 651 Decal adhesive vinyl, we will be cutting it with the Silhouette Cameo.

To begin we import our design into the Silhouette Studio then we trace the design and begin cutting, in the Silhouette Cameo. We set the cutting blade to 2 when cutting regular or adhesive vinyl film. Once the cutting is finish we will weed the vinyl this will allow us to start seeing the cut design (vinyl weeding is peeling the vinyl from the design). After the design is weeded from the vinyl, we will use transfer film to transfer the design.

Next westart transferring it by cutting piece of transfer film and placing it on top of the design. Then we would use a squeegee to make sure the adhesive vinyl is transferred completely onto the transfer film. As you are squeeging the transfer film, make sure there are no air bubbles, then you are ready to peel the transfer film. When peeling the transfer film make sure you get all of your design onto the transfer film, if the design doesn't fully transfer re-squeegee that area of the design until it comes up.

Before transferring to the mug we spray rubbing alcohol lightly onto a tissue and we wipe down the area that going to have the design. Once design has been transferred we ready to apply it to the mug, to apply it to the mug we place the design starting with the middle then we squeegee the left side then the right. After that you can begin to peel the transfer film off of the mug, same as transferring the vinyl if the design doesn't transfer re-squeegee the transfer film until the design has been fully transfer.
