In previous blog posts we have been designing on mugs using Oracal 651 adhesive vinyl, would you like to see how we design on glass giving off a frost look. What’s up everyone Chris here from Equalize Designz today were going to be glass etching with Armour Etch Cream. If you have watch or read our blog post on applying adhesive vinyl onto mug I'm basically doing the same process up to when we start weeding the vinyl, if you haven't you can follow along. So we start off by grabbing our design and importing it into the Silhouette Studio then we will be tracing it by clicking the trace icon and highlighting our design.
With the design highlighted you can adjust the threshold and high pass to make sure it's covered, then you will click on trace. Once design is trace you can begin to cut, when cutting adhesive vinyl I use the same blade setting as regular vinyl film. After the design is cut now start the weeding, the weeding process is different from applying the adhesive vinyl onto something. When weeding for glass etching you will take out the things you would want to keep. If your design has letters in it you would take the letters out and keep the backing of the vinyl.
After that we will start transferring the vinyl onto transfer tape using a squeegee, then after transferred we will begin to apply it to the glass. When using Armour Etch Cream be sure to use gloves to prevent it from touching your skin, now we ready to pour some of the cream onto the glass. You want to make sure to spread out evenly across the design, then let sit for five to ten minutes. After that you can squeegee the extra back into the bottle then rinse with warm water, dry the glass and begin peeling the vinyl off the glass, now your design is etch. If have any please place your comment below, thanks for reading our blog post and check out next post next Wednesday's.
